Historic and Heritage
With a pattern library including historic and heritage carpet designs, Wilton Carpets is one of the UK’s leading authorities on woven axminster wool carpet for historic and heritage buildings. From faithful reproductions of original carpet designs in high-quality woven axminster through to contemporary interpretations of period designs for historic buildings with a modern purpose, Wilton Carpets has a long record of manufacturing wool historic and heritage carpet.
Through our Bespoke service, our design team can work in the confines of curatorial accuracy for historic interiors, planning and designing a replacement historic and heritage carpet that meets the exact design, colour and construction of the original, using a high-quality woven axminster construction that provides longevity under intense use. After carrying out a survey of the historic original, Wilton Carpets can manufacture using traditional broadloom and narrowloom axminster and wilton looms.
For historic and heritage buildings that have had a change of use, such as country hotels, wedding venues and private houses used for events; Wilton Carpets can provide a design that reflects the architectural history of the building in a contemporary design that reflects the interior’s modern use. Through our Bespoke service, we have crafted woven wool axminster historic and heritage carpets for Grade 1 and Grade 2 listed buildings, as well as numerous historic hotels and public spaces. View our Gallery for examples of these projects.
The Ready to Weave service allows the recolouring of traditional, classic and period carpet designs from our pattern library, matching interior refurbishment colour schemes throughout public and private use areas. From a minimum order of just 100 square metres, our Ready to Weave carpets are available in four weeks.
As a historic and heritage carpet specialist, Wilton Carpets manufactures broadloom and narrowloom woven wool carpets in a range of qualities, adapting wear resistance to meet the needs of individual rooms within any heritage interior. For guest rooms and private rooms, a range of Tufted carpets is available in versatile and subtle patterns for a carpet that can complement period features, while providing a quality wool carpet that delivers good value.
Using wool means that Wilton Carpets retain a sensitive use of traditional materials for historic and heritage carpets, as well as providing a carpet with excellent wear properties. Wool carpets also respond well to sensitive cleaning methods employed in historic and heritage buildings. Providing a traditional carpet construction for historic and period interiors, Wilton Carpets weaves in Wiltshire in the town of Wilton, where carpet has been woven since the 17th Century.
