Seen the new fabulous production of Cruella? Well, you should. Apart from an inspired re-working of 70s hits into a perfect-pitch sound track, the film is sumptuous in it’s detailing, making it a captivating story of the origins of everyone’s favourite childhood baddie. The depth and nuance of the lead characters is brilliantly expressed through their costumes, and that attention to detail is carried through to the setting – with every scene bringing to life plot and mood. So naturally, we were thrilled to be asked to contribute a carpet for one of the most explosive scenes in the film; the genesis of Cruella. The carpet is a bespoke creation, opulent and timeless in design to suit the grand and dramatic surroundings. Have a look at the trailer and see… Read More
Wilton Carpets News
Carpet looking a bit bare and nibbled? It’s probably Tinea Pellionella.
A pretty name for a tiny creature with a voracious appetite. Carpet moths typically live outdoors in birds’ nests and on animals, but we are seeing an increasing problem with them invading homes and commercial spaces, attracted to the natural fibres in carpeting and soft furnishings. It’s an increasingly significant problem in the South of the UK. They typically munch in corners, under furniture and other spaces they are less likely to be disturbed. Shut downs, due to current restrictions have left pubs, bars, restaurant and hotels in the dark, and unvacuumed for obvious reasons, so hordes of Tinea Pellionella have been left to flourish. Moth Proof vs Moth Resistant ‘Moth proof’ is a misnomer; the only way to treat carpets is to treat the yarn with a chemical toxic… Read More

Classic Styling for Historic Town Hall
In 1885, the first Mayor of Morley, Joseph Scofield held a competition to design a new town hall for the people of Morley, having recently gained borough status. The winning design clung firmly to the tradition of the late 19th century, drawing on inspiration from most other buildings of the time, being unabashedly neo classical. Over it’s grand history, Morley Town Hall has played host to Queen Elizabeth II, has been the recording site for Grimethorpe Colliery Band’s album and the occasional filming of Emmerdale. And now, it’s graced with a beautiful Wilton Carpet. Drawing on the classical styling of the building and interior theme, the bespoke carpet design is based on a Persian rug style, pulling in the rich, jewel tones from our Dimensions palette and creating an opulent,… Read More

We’re on Antiques Road Trip
Presenter Charlie Ross and his team came to the factory late last year to learn about the story behind the world-famous Wilton weave and the subsequent hundreds of years of history which have shaped this manufacturing business in South Wiltshire. There was a carpet factory built on our site in Wilton in 1655. In this year, England was between Kings, and Oliver Cromwell was busy dividing the country up into 11 districts, each under military control. It was the year Cyrano de Bergerac died. It was 5 years before Samuel Pepys started his diaries. The last 365 years have seen development, disaster, technological advancement and even a war-imposed stoppage where the factory was used as a laundry for hospital blankets. The Antiques Road Trip team was fascinated to learn about… Read More
